I was flipping around tv recently and tuned in to MTV and VH1. I would have liked to have seen music videos on either of these channels being that they were the original flagship channels for music videos on cable. But that was not the case instead of getting to watch and listen to music videos I was stuck with the choice of watching one lame reality tv show over another lame reality tv show. Now correct me if I’m wrong but VH1 stands or stood for Video Hits 1 and MTV stood for Music Television; sadly that is not the case today. Each of these channels now runs non stop one crappy reality tv show after another.

MTV’s suckfest consists of a line up of shows such as Engaged and underage, The Inferno, Made, My super sweet 16, Pimp my ride, Rob & Big, Scarred, Short circuitz, Yo Mama and finally two actual acceptable shows TRL and The Real world.

Total request live (trl) is the only mtv show that celebrates todays new music videos everything else is just a crappy reality tv show in an already over saturated market. The reason I chose not to get in to too much detail is that it gets worse believe it or not; VH1 consists of nothing but even worse reality shows.

Lets start with this one Celebrity fit club. first of all this one should be titled washed up celebrity fit club. Its a show about celebritys that are no longer in shape and cant fit in a spotlight. The last season of the show featured such celebritys as Dustin Diamond (screech) and Rapper Da brat. I mean come on who wants to watch a bunch of fat hasbeens try to get in shape.

Then theres Flavor of love. Now in my opinion when this show debuted I thought it was the most god awful show I had ever seen but I was wrong because this one also gave life to two even more god awful shows, I love New York and Charm school. Flavor of love was a show whos star was rapper flavor flav of public enemy and he was having a competion in where he would have women compete to date him. I dont know what woman in there right ind would want to date that guy all he does is scream his on name and walk around like hes the shit; meanwhile I’ve seen homeless people in the streets that look more hygenic than him.

Now speaking of the two abominations that came from Flavor of love heres the first one its called I Love New York. New York was a contestant in the flavor of love who lost. Shes nothing special either shes not good looking, shes trashy and classless but yet she gets a show where people compete to date her.

Then theres charm school this show faetures more contestants from flavor of love. the girls compete for hell I dont even know what they’re competing for. This show and the above mentioned are just horrible.

I’m sure theres more but these are the shows that seem to be running on vh1 and mtv on a continuous loop. I just think its a shame that tv is so over saturated with reality tv shows. I’m not saying that all reality tv is horrible but when you flood the market with shows like these its more likely that the quality of the shows are going to go down and I believe thats whats happening. I think that channels such as vh1 and mtv need to go back to there roots and keep it music. I also believe that channels such a nbc, abc and cbs should stick to a formula of sitcoms and dramas with a hint of reality tv not the other way around.
