Streaming Your Music (Lala.com and Finetune.com)
Posted June 5th, 2007 by Anthony Filed Under: UncategorizedI have been looking for a good streaming radio or play list site for a while now. I know their are tons of streaming radio stations out there, but not a lot of them meet my requirements. For starters I mostly listen to streaming music when I am at work. Since my work computer is locked down as far as installing apps I run into some problems.
There are two music sites I’m researching right now. One is the newly redesigned Lala.com. This site scans your local iTunes tracks and then you have the ability to listen to those tracks anywhere if they have them available on their servers. Good idea, but some songs use windows media, and since the computer is locked down, this doesn’t help. Also Lala wants you to use their player, their player is simple and nice, but I can’t install that either.
Now I know I can leave my computer on and just purchase some streaming software for my mac, or use some free ones, but my room gets too hot in the summer (even with central air) and I don’t want risk hurting my hackintosh. So Lala would have been a good choice. Since Lala isn’t good for me there is another choice finetune.com and the cool finetune player for the Wii. This site lets you search for user created play lists and make your own as well. I haven’t made my own yet, but the user created ones already on their agree with my music tastes.
So in conclusion it looks like I’m going to use finetune.com and the finetune player for the Wii, I prefer that one even on the computer. Its runs in flash so its not blocked by my work admins like javascript plugins or windows media plugins are. Give it a try, let me know what you guys think.

Finetune.com is my Pandora replacement for when the RIAA starts charging the huge royalty fees on internet radio. Finetune I think will still be able to stream since it’s mostly based on user streaming (and FineTune isn’t nearly as popular)
I never heard of LaLa.com but it looks pretty cool
I really like the content on your website which is very educational. I landed here from Yahoo. I will surely return here in the near future.
Searching for this for some time now - i guess luck is more advanced than search engines
