Sling Player v1.0 Mac
Posted May 1st, 2007 by Anthony Filed Under: UncategorizedGood news slingbox fans, v1.0 has just been released for Mac and its out of beta. The new sling player for Mac will surprise you in how far the software has grown in such a short time. With all the problems and crashes I had with the beta this was a welcome update for me as it must be for the rest of you.
Some notable changes is the new transparent sleek look of the player as well as the placement of the favorites bar on the player, like the mobile sling player versions. The volume slider and the remote control button are less obtrusive and better looking too. The one noticable thing that bothers me is the removal of the control mode button on the player window, it is now in the menu bar under the slingbox menu. Now I could have missed it on the player since I have not given it a complete look over yet. If any one has any info on that, post it in the comments. Other notable changes seemed to be a slight change in video streaming quality, but maybe my evdo connection had gotten better, that could be the reason.
Overall I enjoy the update alot and I can’t wait to see what sling can do in the future with its player. Keep the updates coming and if anyone has an Apple TV please try it out with your slingbox and add your thoughts in the comments because the sling player now supports the Apple TV as well.

Hey Anthony, glad you like the new version. Quick question for you: what did you find yourself using the Control Mode button for? most of our feedback and user testing suggested that we should bury the button in the menus…and after a healthy debate at sling, we decided to do just that…perhaps we should reconsider.
Thanks,
Blake

Welll i use my slingbox mostly over an evdo connection, and when watchin something stored on my dvr while fast forwarding and rewinding, control mode helped me stop at the right place more often. While not in control mode i would overshoot where i wanted to stop. Once i was done fast forwarding or rewinding i would shut it control mode off.
Hi Blake - glad to hear from you. If you ever have anything to be beta tested, I can assure you that The Basement staff would love to be a part - drop us a line!
