Musical Monday

Posted May 21st, 2007 by AJ Filed Under: Uncategorized

Just like every other Monday, Gary’s Basement proudly brings to you yet another installment of “Musical Monday”. This weeks edition brings us a forgotten song (and band) of the late 1990’s.
Way back in 1999, the band Silverchair had released their second single from their album “Neon Ballroom”, “Ana’s Song (Open Fire)”. In the United States, it climbed as high as 12 on the charts, but maybe most remembered for it’s music video.

The song itself was about Silverchair’s lead singer Daniel Johns battle with anorexia nervosa, and earned the band a German Comet Award. The song seemed to touch many who heard it, with Johns’ honestly hitting home to many who felt he was shining a light on something that was underreported.

While we have not heard much from Silverchair since this release, the band is still going strong in Australia, where their most recent album “Young Modern” debuted at number one on the sales charts.
