MUSICAL MONDAY!

Posted April 16th, 2007 by AJ Filed Under: Uncategorized

Welcome back for another edition of Musical Monday. I would like to begin by apologizing for the later than usual update, but a recent flood has made it difficult for me to access my computer. Hopefully I can make it up to you with todays installment.

I know, this weeks artist can’t hold a candle to Kurt Cobain, so save the complaints. But the point of these segment is to bring you back a little bit, and as we stay with the 1990’s I’m sure you all can remember this song dominating the airwaves.

While she was rather well known in her home country of Canada, Alanis Morisette, it wasn’t until her 1995 international debut, Jagged Little Pill, that other countries got to hear her sound. Upon its release, Jagged Little Pill was expected to sell no more than 250,000 copies. In the U.S. alone, the CD sold 14 million copies, making it the best selling debut by a female recording artist.

The biggest Billboard hit to come off of Jagged Little Pill was Morisette’s 1996 single “Ironic”. It climbed as high as 5 on the Top 100, and was on top of the Modern Rock charts. It seemed like you couldn’t go anywhere with out hearing this song blasting through your radio.

As always, send any requests to AJ@GarysBasement.com. Next week, we’ll look to go back a little bit further in time.

It’s like scoring a gooo-aaall and having disallowed against your cross town rivalllls,

Then having the exact same goal counted against you in the eastern conference quarter finalllss!

But seriously, I don’t care what anyone says, but no one can play God quite like Alanis Morisette
