IT’S MUSICAL MONDAY!

Posted April 2nd, 2007 by AJ Filed Under: Uncategorized

Welcome to the first installment of “Musical Monday”. Each and every Monday I will be posting a random “old school” (by my standards) music video, in hopes to drum up old memories.

I couldn’t think of to many songs/bands that could be better for our first installment of the series.

Led by front man Darius Rucker, Hootie and the Blowfish took the musical world by storm with their 1994 debut CD, “Cracked Rear View”. The South Carolina quartet saw the album go platinum a total of 16 times, while on it’s way to becoming the highest selling album of 1995. Also in ‘95, Hootie and the Blowfish took home the Grammy for Best New Artist.

Of the four hits off of the album, it would be hard to argue that any Hootie video was better than “Only Want to be With You”. With help from Dan Marino, Fred Couples, Dan Patrick, Chris Berman, Charlie Steiner and more, it’s a tough video to beat out. They definitely had the star power working for them.

Unfortunately, not every one enjoyed the song. Bob Dylan was none to please that Hootie used the line “tangled up in blue”, which was the name of a Dylan song. He filed a law suit, which led to an out of court settlement.

With one of the greatest videos of all time, here is Hootie and the Blowfish with “Only Want to be With You”.

P.S. - You can send your requests for “Musical Monday” videos to AJ@GarysBasement.com. I’m not going to be looking for mainstream, current, pop culture stuff, more like the songs you haven’t heard on the radio in years, but still have no problem blasting the CD.
