Google Phone Will Exist

No matter what the current rumors are saying about the Google Phone, it will come into existence. How do I know? Elementary of course. Actually if you follow the rumors and the current software Google already provides for phones, its pretty simple to figure out. Google will not produce the hardware for the phone, that is obvious, they are not a hardware company. But they will be developing a lot of software applications for mobile devices in the near future.
The obvious realization of their software endeavor into the mobile world was release of Google Apps for businesses, which included the blackberry gmail client. If you have ever used the gmail mobile client it works pretty well (except on treos, but thats an IBM Java problem). I for one have used balckberry and treo email clients, and I don’t really like them. I do however like the Gmail client, it flows a lot better as a mail client, and it supports a lot of the features that Gmail does on your browser, just on a smaller scale. Also we have Google maps for mobiles which works especially well when looking up a business and can connect you right from within the application to the business you searched for. So not only is it a map but its one of the easiest yellow pages application I have used on a phone. Besides these current apps Google will bring their business apps to a smaller scale, and one killer app as well mobile Youtube.
So if Google is not creating the hardware, then who will? Well I think Samsung is out best bet in that department. It will be a Linux/Java based device. Most likely it will have a full qwerty keyboard, and maybe a touch-screen. If it does run Linux we are probably looking at some kind of Firefox based browser, hopefully they will take a key point from Apple and make it a fully functional browser. I believe it will be released for all carriers since Google is not the type of company that will segregate its customers.
I don’t know how many of you feel about this, but I for one will be looking forward to a Google Phone. Google is one to always surprise the world and I expect many more cool mobile applications to come. Gtalk mobile, Picasa mobile, a new mobile search client. Who knows? But we can sure keep our fingers crossed and maybe we will have our wishes come true.
