Gmail Imap - Push Frequency

Imap in gmail is something I have been waiting for, for a long time. Now that I finally got it to work with my treo, I still got a gripe with it.

The frequency of push emails are taking anywhere from 7 - 15 minutes to get to my phone after it hits my gmail inbox. I know that its still early. But if Google wants to join the foray into the business world like they are doing with Google Apps, they are going to have to bring those push frequency times to around 2 minutes or lower.

All in all I am semi-satasified for the time being. Hopefully though Google gets on the ball and brings that frequency lower. When that time comes I should be fuly content with gmail imap.

If any of you have experienced different frequencies, leave a comment below for comparison.

The problem is your treo. Gmail IMAP is not push, it is pull. If you want messages to arrive quicker then change the frequency that your treo checks for mail.

I was actually under the impression that IMAP is push. I know the default email client (versamail) for the treo is not supported, but Sprint Mobile Email is. Check out my last post here:

Also this is the response I received from Seven Networks, the developer of Sprint Mobile Email.

Hi Anthony,

Yes it does work over IMAP, however Gmail is experiencing push issues at the moment. There should be a resolution coming very soon, but in the meantime you will have to manually send/receive to get emails or set up a schedule sync every 15 minutes until the push issue is resolved for Gmail.

If you have any other questions feel free to email me directly.

Thanks,

So i was jut wondering where your getting your information from, because I do not have my Sprint Mobile Email client set to pull, its only set to push, and I still get my email. Can you provide more evidence.

haha ^^ nice, is there a section to follow the RSS feed

The quality of the info is what keeps me on this site, thanks!

I’ve never given this a try, but I think it’s about time I do.

lol many of the responses readers distribute are so silly, occasionally i ponder if they really read the weblog posts and threads before writing a comment or if perhaps they merely look at the subject of the post and type only the first thought that pops into their heads. in any case, it really is relaxing to browse through sensible commentary from time to time instead of the same, outdated blog vomit which i almost always notice on the web i’m going to take up a smattering of hands of zynga poker goodbye
