The Future of the iPhone

With the iPhone successfully launched yesterday across the United States, I find myself asking whats in store for the future of the iPhone. Many people are already speculating of new versions of the iPhone. Some are looking forward to it’s release on other networks. I for one believe that Apple will launch their own MVNO after the 5 year at&t exclusivity comes to an end.

This makes better sense to a company like Apple than dealing with multiple telecoms in the future. Why would I assume this? Well for starters GSM based technologies are not as advanced or technologically superior to CDMA based technologies. Then why did Apple pick at&t, for the simple fact of battery life (GSM draws less power than CDMA), but that was not their first choice.

First heres a little history before I get into my future thoughts. As we all know Apple went to Verizon first, but that fell through because Verizon is a money greedy company with no desire to share. Apple wanted 3G on their phone, who doesn’t. Now why wouldn’t they not choose the next best thing, meaning Sprint. Well beacuse Sprint was just going through the merger with Nextel when Apple proposed their iPhone, and at the time Apple and Sprint would not mesh well. Apple being very customer service friendly and well Sprint being Sprint if you know what I mean.

So Apple settled on at&t. They had dealings with them earlier on with the ROKR phone from Motorola that failed miserably. Since they dealt with them before, they were the next best choice. But it won’t last between these two especially since at&t is a telecom company. Apple is not, they are a technology company, but low and behold just a few years latter Sprint re-brands themselves as a technology company. If you haven’t heard this of Sprint as of yet, you will in the coming weeks.

What does Sprint have to offer? Well they are actively and painstakingly pushing ahead of everyone else in the area of 4G. Interesting to say the least, Apple pushes forward everyday with innovation and technology that surpasses what we have and surprises us at the same time. By the time the Apple at&t contact expires, Sprint will have the largest and most advance 4G network in the country, they will be light years ahead of everyone else.

Will we see the iPhone on Sprint? On their 4G network, but not from Sprint themselves. Apple will take all the money over the next 5 years and invest it on an MVNO that works off of Sprint’s 4G network. No only will we have better iPhones, but we will have newer smaller devices for the everyday consumer, and 4G built into every Apple notebook.

The future looks amazing for the iPhone, but we will just have to wait and see if my predictions come true. What do you readers think, leave your thoughts in the comments.
