Google Telecom?

The breaking news today in the mobile industry is not the release of the Sprint Unlimited Everything plans. The news is of the company’s $29.5 billion loss. Granted it has to due with the buyout of Nextel in 2005, but that is still a huge number. It also does not help that they are hemorrhaging customers left and right.

What comes to my mind is this: Is Sprint ripe for a buyout? A few months back SK Telecom offered Sprint a $15 billion investment, but they refused. This was in part because they were in an awkward situation without a CEO. Sprint declined the offer. With all the rumors running around about Google and open access, would it make sense for Google and SK Telecom to join together and raise Sprint from their inevitable doom.

We all know that Sprint is one of the two bigger mobile carriers in the U.S. that joined Google’s Android alliance. Google wants as many phones as possible to have Android on them, so it makes sense to me if they can get a carrier to go strictly Android on all their handsets. SK Telecom is a big WI-MAX supporter and Google is the internet. So the must ubiquitous of the next-gen formats is where both companies want to be. Lets not
forget that Sprint also has another huge backer in the WI-MAX arena, Intel. Intel has invested so heavily in WI-MAX as well, that they also need to help get WI-MAX off the ground.

If in fact Google did win the 700 mhz frequency that means they need somewhere to use it. Starting up their own mobile company is costly , but using an existing one is smart and lucrative. Will we see a joint-venture, a Google Telecom in the near future? Only time will tell.

AOL Rejecting Digg Links

Posted February 19th, 2008 by Anthony Filed Under: Uncategorized

I am not an AOL user. Personally I can not stand it. I do know a few people who uses AOL for their email. Worst email service ever. AOL is now blocking Digg links in emails sent to AOL users.

I keep on getting delivery failed messages from the AOL post master. No matter how many times I send an email with a Digg link in the content it fails. No link, no problem. Lets get this fixed AOL, its annoying as hell.

Well the update that was supposed to fix a bunch of bugs actually created new ones. Users are reporting that 10.5.2 is killing the DVD Player causing a complete system hang and a forced restart. There is a discussion about the problem plus others here.

This kinda sucks for me too, I was planning on ripping a few DVDs to my iPod Touch tomorrow before I leave on my trip this weekend. I guess I will have to stick with what I have for the time being.

Why do you still use Windows?

Something has been bothering me lately, like an itch in the back of my throat. Why do the majority of people still have an affection and adoration for Windows? The easy answer is that its commonplace, people don’t like change and its universal. But after all of its failures and bugs, the majority of users still use it. But that same majority still complain endlessly about it. So why not change to something else.

With the complete failure of Vista people still want XP on their machines, but XP is still not that great of an OS. I am a former Windows user, and I stopped using it because I was fed up. Now some of you will say that its just easy to use, but frankly I see otherwise. Read the rest of this entry »

Attention all Garysbasement readers. GB is going to be re-released under a new site name. In the next couple of months GB is going to change to Stufftosay.com. We are currently in a decision making process. We have not decided whether to keep the content broad and random like it is now or to focus more on one subject. So I am asking all of you what would you like to see on the new Stufftosay pages.

Here is a list of what we have so far:

Geeky
Tech
Mac
Windows
Random News
Movies
A blog about nothing (you know like Seinfeld)

Leave us a note in the comments on which choice you prefer the most, or gives us some new ideas.
