My Menubar is not Transparent

Posted October 29th, 2007 by Anthony Filed Under: Uncategorized

After hearing about the hideous menubar and how everyone hates it. I wasn’t looking forward to it, yet I would deal with. So I decided to do a clean install of leopard on my 12in powerbook G4, and to my surprise no transparent menubar.

Take a look at the pic below, and no I didn’t use that menubar hack, apparently the menubar changes based on your video card. So since I have an older Mac, my video card probably can’t handle the the transparent effects. Check out the Apple discussions for more info on this.

Gmail Imap - Push Frequency

Posted October 28th, 2007 by Basem3nt Admin Filed Under: Uncategorized

Imap in gmail is something I have been waiting for, for a long time. Now that I finally got it to work with my treo, I still got a gripe with it.

The frequency of push emails are taking anywhere from 7 - 15 minutes to get to my phone after it hits my gmail inbox. I know that its still early. But if Google wants to join the foray into the business world like they are doing with Google Apps, they are going to have to bring those push frequency times to around 2 minutes or lower.

All in all I am semi-satasified for the time being. Hopefully though Google gets on the ball and brings that frequency lower. When that time comes I should be fuly content with gmail imap.

If any of you have experienced different frequencies, leave a comment below for comparison.

Palm Please Update Versamail to Work with Gmail Imap!

Posted October 25th, 2007 by Anthony Filed Under: Uncategorized

Ok this is going to be short. Palm you have not been popular in our eyes lately. We have put up with the aging OS. And the same design over and over gain. You updated Versamail to support push email a little while back, but its doesn’t work with the newly implemented Gmail imap.

Don’t tell us its Gmail either, because every other client works. Even the iPhone. So get with it Palm and give us something that we all want and need. Get Gmail imap to work with Versamail.

Update: If you are a Sprint user, download Sprint Mobile Email, and configure an imap account using Gmail instructions, don’t setup the normal Gmail account settings in Sprint Mobile Email, go to other and setup the imap account. Although I have not gotten the trash and sent folders to show up, but the inbox does work.

Update 2: Now its not working, weird, when I find out more I’ll let you know.

Update 3: Push is still not working, but the IMAP features with Sprint Mobile email do work. The only thing is that you have to manually send/receive so that the mail updates between the treo and the server.

Update 4: I was pushed an email from Seven Networks, they are the developer for Sprint Mobile email. They said that gmail is currently experiencing push problems but Sprint Mobile email does indeed work with gmail push. And sonce that email was pushed to my treo we know its working, however it is sporadic for now.

Open Letter to Nintendo

Posted October 24th, 2007 by Anthony Filed Under: Uncategorized

This is the second in a 3 part series. Check out the first one here.

Dear Nintendo,

You are adored by millions, your games and consoles started our lives with video games for many of us. We respect you more than any of your competitors. Though there is a problem. You are still not progressing technologically the way you should be.

The Wii is an amazing console. It’s innovative and fun, and even though it lacks the graphics power of the PS3 or Xbox 360 its still # 1. I’m not writing this to tell you to get with the graphics, because its not about graphics if your games are fun and entertaining, which they are. No I’m writing this to tell you to get with the technology, something that would serve you and many others just as equally.

The first thing is how you are way behind in internet connectivity and online game play. Sure its free, and it works, but its no where near the the experience the Xbox 360 provides. Hell I rather pay if I can get a similar online experience. Oh and the friend codes have to go, nuff said. Read the rest of this entry »

Fuck the iPhone! Part II

Posted October 24th, 2007 by Anthony Filed Under: Uncategorized

Its been over a month since I released my last post on how I felt about the iPhone and what you can get in the near future that will accommodate the typical geek more.

Now though my opinions have changed slightly. You can call me a hypocrite if it makes you all feel better.

For the longest time I wanted a full screen iPod. I even went so far as to wait to get a new iPod for 3 years. I saw generation after generation of new iPods come and go, yet I yearned for a full screen iPod.

My wishes seemed to come true with the iPhone “the best iPod ever” as Steve Jobs likes to say. But frankly the fact of the matter was that its not “the best iPod ever.” Actually I sum it up as one of the most elegant and revolutionary phones ever. But to me it wasn’t an iPod, though it was a stepping stone to, in my opinion “the best iPod ever.” Read the rest of this entry »
